A Call to Action on Women’s Equality Day
Within the US, 2020 is a historic year that signifies the 100th Anniversary of the ratification of 19th Amendment, that grants women the right to vote.
Despite decades of progress closing the equality gap between men and women, close to 90 percent of men and women still hold some sort of bias against women.
In this time of COVID-19, as front-line responders, health professionals, community volunteers, political leaders, managers, scientists and more, women are making a critical contribution to address the outbreak every day.
Yet, the majority of caregivers, at home and in our communities, are also women. Additionally, existing trends point to a rise in domestic violence during this crisis and Amnesty reveals that gender-based discrimination in the workplace has increased dramatically since lockdown.
Studies indicate that the COVID-19 pandemic is associated with stress, anxiety, fear of contagion, uncertainty about the future, depression and insomnia.
But little attention is being given to the mental health consequences of the COVID-19 crisis.
Women who are traditionally used to “multi-tasking” and who deal every day with societal pressure and norms to conform to the female stereotype are at risk from a mental health pandemic.
If we don’t do something about it now, people are going to be suffering from these mental-health impacts for years to come,
Join Sam Collins, Founder of Aspire for Equality to hear her point of view, strategies and resources for making a difference to the mental health of yourself and others during this unprecedented time.

"Inspiring, fun & easy to relate to and the enthusiasm and energy is contagious. An excellent presentation, which taught me a lot, but it was also the feeling that, as a woman, you're not alone and don't have to feel uncomfortable about wanting more in life."

"Thank you, thank you, thank you for the opportunity to attend such an incredible event. It really has been invaluable for me. I had completely lost touch with the person I was, my belief system and my value. I had no purpose and felt I couldn’t help anybody or make any sort of difference because I honestly felt everything was pointless. For the first time in years, I feel invigorated and excited for the future. In short, and I know you won’t mind my swearing but we have a very strong filter here at Breast Cancer Care, it was a f*****g revelation."
